Born January 5th, 2009

Celine who has been my text book whelper, but now she defied everything in the book.

Her temp never dropped, in fact she rocketed to 103.9

She never skipped a meal, she even ate a great meal of raw green tripe 1 hr before.

She never went into any form of heavy panting nor stress.

But when she began to dig/nest this morning, I knew today was the day.

Celine, unlike the other girls never digs until the morning before whelping.

All my other girls, always dig/nest a least a week before.

So now here it is 8:30 in the morning and Celine has managed two underground tunnels to China.

I checked her temp and it spiked from 101 - 103.9 in less than an hour (it was 56 degrees out).

I was concerned because I have not had a girl's temp do the opposite of what's expected.

So I called my dear friend Evelyn, it was agreed I wouldn't worry.

I left Celine alone for less then 5 mins, when I returned to her in the yard, I looked for Celine

from nest to nest and in between there was a large dark shiny slimy object.

I just knew this was going to happen, so I had a towel by the pool doorway.

I head to the object on the ground and hoped for the best. It was a big lovely puppy.

I tore the sac open, Celine is trying to chow down the placenta, the puppy is gurgling

and I'm having a tug of war with Celine, on one hand as she wants the placenta

and I want to prevent a hernia on this pup.

Then at the same time trying to rub the puppy to dry it and clear its lungs with the other hand.

Finally Celine and I agree that she could have the placenta,

if she lets me have an inch of it the cord :)

In the house we return with the feisty puppy, cleaned it up and on her teat she went.

Since she was born on our lawn, her ribbon color is Miss Floritan 1.8 lbs

One hour thirty five minutes later we welcomed the second puppy (in the whelping box :)

Since the first puppy was named after our grass, I chose his ribbon color to reflect

the beautiful sky we enjoy 99% of the time, like today. Mr. Florida Sky 1.3 lbs

I was hoping for a third puppy, but I only identified 2 on the x-ray.

Had there been a third puppy, its name would have been related to the Atlantic Ocean.

Celine enjoyed ice cream during whelp and brown rice, pumpkin & chicken broth when done.

Celine is very content with her babies, she has to be forced to go potty.

No heat lamp, No heating pad, No air conditioning! Perfect for all.

Miss Floritan 1.11 lbs  (8 hrs later)

Mr. Florida Sky 1.6 lbs  (8 hrs later)
