We breed to improve in the quality of our Newfoundlands in accordance with the standard. We gladly share future planned Breedings & Health information on our dogs. All Breedings are planned on paper in advance, before they actually take place. In the event a stud is not owned by Amorosa, every attempt is made to visit the stud, we research offspring sired by the stud, research the stud & ancestors in the pedigree, study potential stud dogs at NCA Specialty shows & NCA tapes, AKC Shows (given the stud has been shown at an NCA Specialty or a show we may have attended). OFA, OVC & Penn Hip results are tools that we use to help guide us when selecting dogs to be part of our breeding program. We do not breed dogs that have not been tested for hereditary diseases.

Breeding Newfoundlands is a hobby of love for us. This is not a business, nor are we looking to be a popular kennel based on quantity. Our dogs are chosen based on temperament, health, type and ancestors in the pedigree. Our goal is to produce a Newfoundland with the ability to be a companion, obtain working titles and compete in conformation. We aim for a soft expression, solid dense structure, well balanced, correct head, strong leveled topline with minimal life threatening genetic diseases and most importantly with a sweet-disposition that is neither dull nor ill-tempered. We have been owned by Newfoundlands for nearly 15 years and have bred 11 litters. We are proud of these puppies and the homes that we have chosen to place them in.  We maintain contact with every home that owns one of our pups, on either a bi-yearly, monthly, weekly or daily basis. We maintain contact, because we are their friends and guide, for the life of the pups we bring into this world. If your not looking to keep in contact with the breeder of your future Newfoundland, then we are not the breeders for you. We will continue to strive for the betterment & improvement of the breed and hope for the best out come.

We screen all of our dogs for hip & elbow dysplasia, heart defects & Cystinuria prior to any breeding taking place.  A responsible breeder is ready and willing to openly discuss these potential health problems with you.  We then breed accordingly to minimize genetic defects.  A DNA profile is also done prior to being used for breeding.

You may visit the OFA website and see sample certificates. These are the certificates or preliminary reports that responsible breeders should make available to you, upon request or voluntarily.

The truth is!  No breeder can look at a dog and rate their hips/elbows based on their level of activity! It is the breeders responsibility to test or they should not be breeding!!! There is no excuse not to test. The most important thing is that the breeder should be honest with you. There are no lines clear of any genetic diseases that effect the Newfoundland breed and there is no guarantee that obtaining a puppy from clear parents will provide you with a sound disease free puppy. Breeding OFA, OVC or Penn Hip clear parents produces both clear, carriers and effected puppies with genetic diseases. Affected parents also produce puppies that are clear, carriers and effected with genetic diseases. Breeding cleared stock decreases the chances of hereditary disease, but again does not guarantee disease free puppies.

We believe that nutrition and environment also contribute to the degree of severity of orthopedic problems that large breeds are predisposed to. We naturally rear our puppies and companions. We recommend to feed as natural as possible. Our companions are fed The Honest Kitchen (Embark, Force & Preference), We add/rotate green tripe, performance dog raw meat, raw whole sardines, chicken backs, chicken necks, turkey necks and various organ meats. If you must feed kibble, you must also supplement a good quality kibble with raw meats, probiotics, digestive enzymes, salmon oil etc.  Some  great helpful sources are B-Naturals (Lew Olson PhD), Natures Farmacy, K9 Power. We also make our own fresh no preservatives dog cookies and training treats, with human grade meats and organic ingredients. Remember these days a good quality kibble cost nearly as much as feeding RAW. In my opinion and experience what you think your saving in feeding kibble, your putting into a veterinarians pocket and out of your loving companions life! More health and skin issues are related to kibble and over vaccinating your companion. We guide our present and future homes for life!

We give minimal vaccines, we follow Dr. Jean Dodds protocol. http://www.doglogic.com/vaccination.htm

Our puppies and companions are raised indoors in a smoke free, loving environment.

Every puppy that we breed or purchase has its heart checked by a board certified veterinary cardiologist.  In NY we use Dr. N. Joel Edwards PO Box 558, Altamont, NY 12009........In FL we use Dr. Tacy Rupp, DVM, MS, DACVIM, West Palm Beach, FL 33406.  Most importantly they must express the hallmark of the Newfoundland breed, which is a sweet temperament, before being considered for breeding.   List of board certified cardiologists.  HEARTS should be checked by a board certified CARDIOLOGIST, example of a dog (+12mths of age) is a OFA # NF-CA1404/15M/C-PI Look at the letter C = Board Certified Cardiologist, P = General Practitioner, S = Specialist.

We are members of the Newfoundland Club of America, Newfoundland Club of Canada, Bear Mountain Newfoundland Club, New England Newfoundland Club,  Northland Newfoundland Club, Newfoundland Club of Florida  Please visit club websites to see Newf. happenings & workshops in your area.

Health clearances for breeding stock,

on this site you will find fully disclosed results.

If a male/female OFA'd Hips and not Elbows, that will be listed and visible on the OFA site.

If a male/female OFA'd Elbows and not Hips, that will be listed and visible on the OFA site.

In my opinion if a breeder x-rays the hips of potential breeding stock,

they should also have the elbows x-rayed at the same time, unless its and emergency situation.
